Lau Schulpen

Lau Schulpen works at Anthropology & Development Studies (CAOS) of Radboud University in Nijmegen. He obtained his MSc in Development Studies at the same university in 1988, worked for the Dutch development organization ICCO and finalized his PhD in 1997 based on a comparative analysis of Dutch governmental and non-governmental aid to India.

He is one of the founders of the Advanced Master in Development Studies (AMID) – a one-year dual Mater programme in which students work at a ‘development organisation’ (e.g. government, private sector, NGOs or knowledge institute) and simultaneously obtain an additional master. He serves, among others, a chair of the AMID education committee. As assistant professor at CAOS, he mainly focuses on international cooperation, civil society and the role of citizens in development cooperation. He has extensive contacts in the (Dutch) world of international cooperation and has been involved in many studies for and with (Dutch) development organisations over the last 30 years. Within Radboud University, he also is chair of the FNV faction within the University Council (OR) and of the Representative Council (OC) at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
