Capacity Building Best Practices

During the past decades higher education institutes in the Netherlands have built up a huge record of successful capacity building projects with partners in low- and middle- income countries and countries in transition all over the world.

The PIE members are proud to share the best practices of partnerships in capacity development. Furthermore many alumni of higher education institutes in the Netherlands have reached high level positions in their country or region and are very successful in their field of expertise. Some of the most successful alumni are presented here.

Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP), NFP & NICHE

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs funds capacity building programmes in the educational field in partner countries. The former NFP and MSP programmes offered scholarships to mid-career professionals. The NFP Tailor-Made Training ( TMT) funds staff training for professionals in various organisations. The NICHE programme supports a range of organisations, including post-secondary education institutions and ministries. Nuffic manages these programmes on behalf of the Dutch government. Together the programmes are characterised by an integral capacity building approach in order to foster systemic change in the selected countries. In 2018 the Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) succeeded the NFP and NICHE programmes.
